From time to time, communities will run across information security incidents. In the course of project expansion, it always seems like a good idea to wake up a new instance of Something_With_A_Database and not write down the credentials or think very clearly about what the permissions are on that new instance. If you're involved in open source for any length of time, you're going to discover a hack at some point in time. It turns out that the story of the Lord of the Rings is a great model for being able to deal with your information security issues.

Please put on your submarine-commander hat, because it's time to explore some of the depths of U-Boot. You don't really believe U-Boot is just an innocent little bootloader that only knows how to start the kernel on your embedded device in exactly the same manner day after day, do you? Certainly not!

How do you innovate at a multiple-billion dollar company that may not be as nimble as it once was. The Dell XPS 13 laptop, developer edition began life as “Project Sputnik” a scrappy skunkworks project to pilot an Ubuntu-based developer platform. Thanks to the power of the community, this concept went from project to product in a little over 6 months. Although the progress was quick it was not easy and the small team came up against a lot of resistance and often hostility. Come hear about the lumps they took and the 5 key lessons they took away.

The Maker Community has changed the way we do hardware and software development. It has also changed the way we purchase tools. With a growing selection of cheap inexpensive tools, it is hard to determine which ones are a good value for the price. In this presentation, a selection of essential tools that have been tested and evaluated for the best value to embedded developers and hobbyists.

Topic: PostgreSQL

Wouldn't it be cool if your current RDBMS could support MongoDB... without having a MongoDB server? ToroDB is an open source project that turns PostgreSQL into a MongoDB-compatible server, supporting the MongoDB query API and MongoDB's replication. Or use ToroDB on analytics databases such as Greenplum or CitusDB, to also support OLTP and OLAP/DW workloads! ToroDB natively implements the MongoDB protocol and features a document-to-relational mapping algorithm that transforms the JSON documents into relational tables. Join this talk to know more!

This session will discuss trademarks in FOSS both upstream and downstream. With respect to upstream, what are the limits, under the license or the law, if one is using another's trademark for modified or unmodified code? With respect to downstream, what can a company do to ensure that its trademark remains a meaningful representation of its brand when others will be modifying the software?
