SCALE U now open to all SCALE 11X attendees

= SCALE 11X Bulletin: SCALE U classes now open to all =

SCALE 11X attendees have gained an added bonus to the schedule for the three-day event in Los Angeles starting on Friday.

Today the SCALE 11X Team announced that all the SCALE U sessions – half- and full-day tutorials on Friday – will be available as part of the standard SCALE 11X pass, thanks to SCALE U sponsors One Course Source, LOPSA, and GitHub, which are making the sessions available to the wider community.

These Friday sessions are:

Bradley M. Kuhn is President and Executive Director of the Software Freedom Conservancy and on the Board of Directors of the Free Software Foundation. Bradley is giving the talk "The Affero GPLv3: Why It Exists and Who It's For," on Saturday, Feb. 23, at 6 p.m., in the Carmel room. The SCALE Team asked him a few questions about his presentation.

Chris Turra is a web operations engineer at Mozilla who is a passionate technologist and open source enthusiast. David Rodriguez likes to break web applications, so it's no surprise that his presentation will be on troubleshooting. David currently works as a Linux Systems Engineer, managing various types of Linux servers and will give his presentation, "Practical Application Troubleshooting using strace" on Saturday, Feb. 23, at 4:30 p.m. in room Century AB. The SCALE Team caught up with David to ask a few questions.

Nathan Betzen has been working with the XBMC community in one form or another since 2008, and currently he serves as the XBMC Community Manager  Nathan's presentation, "Growing an Online User Community: A Review of the XBMC Method," will be given on Friday, Feb. 22, at 11:30 a.m. in room Los Angeles C. Jonathan Thomas is the CEO of OpenShot Studios, LLC, and is the creator and lead developer of OpenShot Video Editor, one of the leading open-source video editors available on Linux. Jonathan will be giving a presentation entitled "Introducing OpenShot Library: A Powerful New Video Editing Framework!" on Saturday, Feb. 23, at 11:30 a.m. in the LaJolla room.

Jenn Greenaway is an early education specialist and open source enthusiast who studied child development at Moorpark College and The University of La Verne. She currently teaches infants and toddlers the skills that are most essential to success in the technology industry. The SCALE Team had a chance to talk to Jenn about her presentation, "Your Baby Can Hack," which will be given at 11:30 a.m., Sunday, Feb. 24, in room Los Angeles A.

Jérôme Petazzoni works for dotCloud, where he leads the Site Reliability Engineering team, which is responsible for the uptime of the dotCloud platform. The platform hosts tens of thousands of apps using Python, Ruby, Node.js, Java, Perl, Go, PHP, RabbitMQ, Redis, Solr, ElasticSearch, MySQL, MongoDB, PostgreSQL, and many more. Jérôme took the time to talk to the SCALE Team about his presentation, "Lightweight Virtualization with namespaces, cgroups, and unioning filesystems," which will be at 4:30 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 23, in room Century CD.

Roy Sutton is the community manager for HP's Open webOS. He supports developers in porting Open webOS to new platforms and is a contributor to the Enyo project. Roy too a few minutes for an interview with the SCALE Team about his presentation "From Closed to Open: The Open webOS Story," which will take place at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 24, in room Los Angeles B.
