The Cloud Has Made Us Reckless
Fast access to unlimited resources has allowed many organizations to iterate and innovate quickly, scale rapidly, and turned many companies into "tech companies". But, as with all things, it comes at a cost. In addition to growing and sometimes unexplainable AWS bills, there has also been an atrophy of skill as operational knowledge has been ceded to managed services and SaaS providers. Organizational resilience has been lost as vendor lock in wraps chains around your data and privacy. And the cost to the environment and sustainability efforts will impact the world around us for generations to come.
In this talk, you will learn about some of the ways that the era of cloud computing has made us overly dependent on a few vendors and how we can take more control of our journeys with awareness, rebuilding skills, thinking beyond the quarterly sales goal, and cleaning up our messes.
