Dennis Rex recenly connected with Nithya Ruff. She is a repeat SCALE speaker and will be joining us to present Building Bridges across Company and Community. Ruff leads the open source practice at Comcast, and is a board member at the Linux Foundation, a SCALE sponsor.
SCALE Could you please introduce yourself and tell us a little about your background?
Nithya I lead the open source practice for Comcast, a media and technology company. We are a serious technology company and use and contribute to open source in a number of areas like connected home, content delivery networks and clouds. I have a great job of creating community and culture change around open source in the company and to work with external communities on behalf of Comcast Open Source work. I am also passionate about opening doors to open source for new people and under-represented communities. I bring this passion to my work on the Linux Foundation Board and on the board of Codechix.com
SCALE: You're giving a talk on Building Bridges. Without tipping your hand on the actual talk, can you give us an idea of what we might expect?
Nithya: Companies and communities are inherently different types of organizations. And as more companies use Open Source, it becomes critical to understand each other and work together to achieve common goals. I come from a company perspective and want to bring some ideas on how we can work better with communities.
SCALE: Is this your first visit to SCALE? If so, what are your expectations? If not, can you give us your impressions of the event?
Nithya: This is my second year and I am honored to be back at SCALE. I have come to know some of the people who work hard to put SCALE together and love the youth day, legal track and just the whole feel of SCALE. Especially in Pasadena.
SCALE: What attracts you to open source?
Nithya: It is the intersection of people, culture, technology and strategy. It is never a dull moment and the people I get to hang out with are wonderful.
