Over 180 sessions. More than 140 exhibitors. Just north of 3,600 attendees registered.
That was SCALE 14X.
Now that the SCALE Team has had a chance to decompress from the four-day event – our first ever in the Pasadena Convention Center – we would like to take some time to thank those who made it possible.
But first, it will be a relief to some of you to know that SCALE 15X will be held a little later next year – March 2-5, 2017 – at the Pasadena Convention Center. So we're back to our usual time slot in the Linux/FOSS expo schedule.
SCALE would like to thank the three keynote speakers for their outstanding talks during the course of the weekend. Cory Doctorow, Sarah Sharp, and Mark Shuttleworth – with Mark doing double duty as both UbuCon keynoter and SCALE Saturday keynoter – set the tone every day for the event with their insightful morning presentations.
Also, we'd like to thank and recognize two important long-time SCALE Team members who have chosen to move on after SCALE 14X.
SCALE Technical Director Stuart Sheldon, president of ACT-USA (which brings you the great wireless connectivity for which SCALE is known), will be stepping down after this show. Under his guidance, SCALE has raised the bar by which tech and A/V standards are judged. Also, A/V Committee Chair Tom King has decided to move on from SCALE. Mere words cannot express how grateful we are to have had their massive contributions and herculean efforts in making SCALE the show that it is, and they will be missed. The SCALE Team wishes them the best of luck in their future endeavors.
Clearly SCALE would not be SCALE without the thousands of attendees who visit our four-day event early in the year. If you attended SCALE 14X, we hope you came away from the expo with more knowledge, more insight, and even more entertaining or interesting anecdotes about Linux and Free/Open Source Software. If you didn't attend, we hope you will consider coming to SCALE 15X next year.
No SCALE event would be complete without the work of the hundreds of SCALE volunteers that make the show go, from set-up and opening through the closing and tear-down. A list of the committees can be found here – http://www.socallinuxexpo.org/scale/14x/contact-us – and if you'd like to join us, we are always looking for volunteers.
We are currently processing the videos of the talks, and each recorded session will be available soon on our YouTube channel at http://www.youtube.com/user/socallinuxexpo
