Interview: Nathan Betzen

Nathan Betzen has been working with the XBMC community in one form or another since 2008, and currently he serves as the XBMC Community Manager  Nathan's presentation, "Growing an Online User Community: A Review of the XBMC Method," will be given on Friday, Feb. 22, at 11:30 a.m. in room Los Angeles C. The SCALE Team had a chance to ask Nathan about his presentation.

Q: Could you please introduce yourself and tell us a little about your background?

Interview: OpenShot's Jonathan Thomas

Jonathan Thomas is the CEO of OpenShot Studios, LLC, and is the creator and lead developer of OpenShot Video Editor, one of the leading open-source video editors available on Linux. Jonathan will be giving a presentation entitled "Introducing OpenShot Library: A Powerful New Video Editing Framework!" on Saturday, Feb. 23, at 11:30 a.m. in the LaJolla room.

Q: Could you please introduce yourself and tell us a little about your background?

Interview: Jenn Greenaway

Jenn Greenaway is an early education specialist and open source enthusiast who studied child development at Moorpark College and The University of La Verne. She currently teaches infants and toddlers the skills that are most essential to success in the technology industry. The SCALE Team had a chance to talk to Jenn about her presentation, "Your Baby Can Hack," which will be given at 11:30 a.m., Sunday, Feb. 24, in room Los Angeles A.

Q: Could you please introduce yourself and tell us a little about your background?

Interview: Jerome Petazzoni

Jérôme Petazzoni works for dotCloud, where he leads the Site Reliability Engineering team, which is responsible for the uptime of the dotCloud platform. The platform hosts tens of thousands of apps using Python, Ruby, Node.js, Java, Perl, Go, PHP, RabbitMQ, Redis, Solr, ElasticSearch, MySQL, MongoDB, PostgreSQL, and many more. Jérôme took the time to talk to the SCALE Team about his presentation, "Lightweight Virtualization with namespaces, cgroups, and unioning filesystems," which will be at 4:30 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 23, in room Century CD.

Interview: Roy Sutton

Roy Sutton is the community manager for HP's Open webOS. He supports developers in porting Open webOS to new platforms and is a contributor to the Enyo project. Roy too a few minutes for an interview with the SCALE Team about his presentation "From Closed to Open: The Open webOS Story," which will take place at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 24, in room Los Angeles B.

Interview: Dennis Kibbe

A long-time Linux user, Dennis Kibbe teaches Linux System Administration at Mesa Community College in Mesa, Arizona. Dennis is a contributing author to "Introduction to the Command Line" by GNU Press and a member of the Phoenix Linux Users Group. The SCALE Team caught up with Dennis to talk about his SCALE 11X presentation, "GTD with Emacs," which takes place on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. in room Los Angeles A.

If you've ever downloaded FOSS software for use on your hardware, there a good chance that it came from the Oregon State University Open Source Lab (OSUOSL). The lab hosts a wide variety of FOSS projects, and the director of OSUOSL, Lance Albertson, took some time with the SCALE Team to talk about his presentation, "Ten Years of FOSS Hosting at the OSU Open Source Lab" on Sautrday, Feb. 23 at 4:30 p.m. in room Los Angeles C.

Interview: Joe Brockmeier

Joe Brockmeier's long and varied history in open source projects is well known in FOSS circles. Currently, he's the open source evangelist for Citrix and committer on the Apache CloudStack project, and he served as the openSUSE community manager as well as a long-time FOSS journalist. Joe will speak at SCALE 11X this year on "Taking the Open Cloud to 11 with CloudStack" on Sunday, Feb. 24, at 11:30 a.m. in the LaJolla room. The SCALE Team caught up with Joe for this brief interview.

Interview: Deb Nicholson

Free software advocate Deb Nicholson returns to the Southern California Linux Expo for SCALE 11X to give the talk "Software Patents: Who's Behind the Curtain?" on Saturday, Feb. 23, at 11:30 a.m. in room Los Angeles A. Welcoming the change in the weather in Los Angeles in February from her native Boston, Deb is a long-time SCALE attendee and gives the SCALE Team a few minutes in this interview.
