Caryl Bigenho

Volunteer
OLPC and Sugar Labs

Caryl Bigenho was born 30 years too soon. Still, she has made a smooth transition from a life with crystal sets and slide rules to living with computers and all the latest technological toys .She remembers when most software was open source and teachers wrote, adapted, and shared programs in BASIC on floppy disks via a project called "Softswap."
In 2007, Caryl was a "First Day Donor" in OLPC's "Give One Get One" program, and one of the first people to sign up to be a support volunteer. She still answers an occasional help request, but has expanded her horizons to include introducing the public to the latest XO technology and Sugar software, writing manuals and curriculum, testing software, and mentoring small OLPC deployments around the world.
This fall, she and several other OLPC volunteers joined together to form a team for a Stanford Venture Lab MOOC course. Their team developed an open source, server-based, learning environment for schools where internet access is not available.
