Garrett is the founder of the illumos project -- the community driven fork of OpenSolaris, and Director of Engineering, Platform Software at Nexenta Systems. He's spent the past two decades working on both open source and proprietary systems, with a particular focus on kernel and device drivers. In his spare time he enjoys reading, programming, kayaking, and spending time with his son.
