Tux Paint is free and open source software for drawing pictures and creating works of art. Quoting the developers, Tux Paint "combines an easy-to-use interface, fun sound effects, and an encouraging cartoon mascot who guides children as they use the program". It is geared toward preschool and elementary school children but kids of all ages find it fun to use!

In this brief presentation, Katia will discuss and demonstrate some of the interesting features of Tux Paint such as:

The simple, entertaining interface featuring sounds effects and a cartoon version of Tux offering help and tips
The drawing tools available including paint brushes, stamps, shapes, text and more
"Magic" effects that can transform and enhance simple drawings

When someone is of a young age, they have many opportunities to contribute to open source projects that you or them might not think of. Young Kids and teens have many chances to participate in open source community, collaboration and development and this presentation will discuss practical examples of them, as well as the obstacles that younger individuals might run into in an open source community when working with individuals who are older then them.
