Open Source Software as Activism
Topic:
Technology shapes the course of our world. Lines of code are votes for a particular future. Enfranchising more people to participate in the technology “do-ocracy” requires technology education and empowering those with that education to have the freedom, time and reward structure to cast their votes. During this talk, I will highlight a few examples of open-source projects in the past few decades that have changed not only our technical world, but our political landscape. I will end with some speculations on how inclusive empowering might positively shape our social landscape moving forward.
