If Ron Evans has anything to do with it, he wants to make sure the "Internet of Things" doesn't become the "AOL of Things." Ron's talk on Full Scale Robotics will be held on SCALE 13x Saturday at 6. The SCALE Team caught up with Ron to ask him about his presentation.
Q: Could you please introduce yourself and tell us a little about your background?
A: I am the ringleader of The Hybrid Group (http://hybridgroup.com), we're a consulting company based in Los Angeles. Among other things, we write software for some cool hardware companies. I personally have been working in open source for many years, both software and hardware. I'm one of the creators of Cylon.js (http://cylonjs.com), Gobot (http://gobot.io), and Artoo (http://artoo.io).
Q: You're giving a talk on Full Stack Robotics. Without tipping your hand on the actual talk, can you give us an idea of what we might expect?
A: Lots of moving parts! Not kidding. And giveaways!
Q: Is this your first visit to SCALE? If so, what are your expectations? If not, can you give us your impressions of the event?
A: This is my second year as a speaker at SCALE, and I love the openness and enthusiasm of the community. Open source is so awesome!
Q: This talk sounds interesting, but is it really of any practical use?
A: Yes! We're just on the cusp of a big surge in the numbers of internet connected devices. We have been lucky enough to be in the forefront, and we want to share some of our real-world experience as early adopters. We need to work together to create the "Internet of Things", not the "AOL of Things", and that means building with open source.
Q: Is there anything else you'd like to add?
A: We want so say "Thank you" to everyone that works so hard to put SCALE together. We're excited to participate and share some awesome surprises with all of you. Don't miss our talk!
