SCALE AV Team member Michael Starch steps out from behind the scenes and will be giving his presentation, "Streaming-OODT: An Open-Source Platform for Big-Data Processing" on SCALE 13x Sunday at 4:30. The SCALE Team caught up with Michael to ask him about his talk.
Q: Could you please introduce yourself and tell us a little about your background?
A: My name is Michael Starch and I work for the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California. I currently do research on the applications of big-data
technologies, and I have a bachelors degree from the University of Michigan.
Q: You're giving a talk entitled "Streaming-OODT: An Open-Source Platform for Big-Data Processing." Without tipping your hand on the actual talk, can you give us an idea of what we might expect?
A: Attendees should expect to learn a bit about big-data and data processing culminating in a discussion about a data system that provides both data managment and the ability to process using state of the art technologies.
Q: Is this your first visit to SCALE? If so, what are your expectations? If not, can you give us your impressions of the event?
A: This is the first time I will present. I have been volunteering for the SCALE AV team for three years. Simply put SCALE is a top-tier conference
for the price of a local community workshop. It is an extremely amazing value, and is very well done. I may, however, be biased given my involvement for several years.
Q: Is there anything else you'd like to add?
A: Nope. Good Luck with publications.
